I have read
an article, called How to protect your digital privacy from new Christmaspresents. I think that it is a topical subject nowadays. Our digital privacy is
not something that should be left behind somewhere.
Alex Hern
wrote an article about ways of avoiding useless commercial, so I have learned
that I should be careful and protect my digital privacy. In fact, I wanted to know
more about this theme, and that is why I started reading it.
The author
gave 3 ways of protecting your privacy. He advised to don’t give up rights that
you don’t need to. In my opinion, it is very important to really read what the
commercial or a company offers you. To tell you the truth, I usually just hit
the bottom “yes”, I don’t read what is written. Alex considers that giving your
permission to your privacy without understanding what is going on will affect
unnecessary calls from companies and their advertisements. He said: “Look for boxes to
uncheck, prompts to decline and settings to change; that will limit the
technology to doing what you bought it for, rather than what the company that
made it hopes you will let it do.”
Moreover,
Alex has an interesting comparison of two different situations. The first one
describes choosing a course or a dish in a restaurant, and the second one is
about accepting the default settings when you first turn on your smartphone. I
agree that if you dive into the settings, you will have more control of your
phone and information in it.
It was a
surprise to me that a new-technology toys that can speak are able to allow hackers
to steal family’s names, birthdates and genders, along with other information.
Nevertheless, the author didn’t give much information about protecting the digital
privacy.
